City of Bonn Launches Mobile Citizen Reporting with AI Photo Recognition

Bonn relaunches its citizen reporting portal: mobile-first, with AI photo recognition and transparent status tracking. Built on Mark-a-Spot (Open Source, Open311, GDPR compliant).

The City of Bonn has relaunched its citizen reporting portal. At anliegen.bonn.de, residents can report issues in public spaces even more easily since September 2025, with a mobile-first, intuitive, and AI-powered interface.

AI Photo Recognition: Upload a Photo, Get a Category Suggestion

The new AI-powered photo reporting feature automatically analyzes uploaded images and assigns them to the appropriate category. This saves time, improves data quality, and lowers the barrier to reporting.

More Categories for Better City Maintenance

The range of report types has been significantly expanded: from defective park benches and playground equipment to broken street lights, drain covers, and green space maintenance topics.

Mobile First: Quick Reports On the Go

The citizen reporting portal is consistently designed for smartphone use:

  • Clear, fast operation
  • Optimized display on all devices
  • Works even with weak network coverage

Transparency Builds Trust

In their personal area, users keep track of their reports, set favorites, and follow the processing status step by step, ensuring traceability and trust.

Technology and Standards: Mark-a-Spot

The implementation is based on Mark-a-Spot, the open-source platform for civic issue tracking:

  • Drupal 11 Backend with high flexibility and extensibility
  • Nuxt Frontend for performance and PWA capabilities
  • Open311 Standard for interoperability with municipal systems
  • GDPR Compliance and full data sovereignty
